We can start our trip in the "Barbagie" departing from Nuoro in direction for Cagliari and leaving to the right the graft for Macomer to come up to Oniferi. Here it is possible to admire the "domus de janas", going up again to the Neolithic and it's possible to admire also several "nuraghi".
Continuing in slope for Orani we can notice the mines of talc and steatite . From Sarule the street departs briefest to reach the sanctuary of Our lady of Gonare, place of cult frequented by all the people of "Barbagia" on the occasion of the festival during the 8 th of September.
Going straight on to reach Olzai you can notice as the live oaks become thicker with the steep slopes in the hills up to the sweetest landscape of Gavoi. The turning for Tonara shows a zone rich in woods of chestnut trees and cores.
Then, we cross villages of great traditions as Sorgono, Atzara, Meana Sardo up to come to Aritzo; a village frequented in all the seasons from who loves the woods, the climate and the landscapes of mountain.
Morover, toward Desulo: a visit deserves the Gennargentu (the tallest top is of 1834 meters). More ahead to 1000 meters altitude we find Fonni, the most important center of the "Barbagia". This territory was intensely populated by the "nuragic" people.
Even more before we reach Mamoiada with its pastures and vineyards; the country is famous for its characteristic carnival that attracts every year thousand of people. In the culminating moment of this party, in the streets of the village, appear the "mamuthones"; suits of skins of sheep, with the face covered by ax wood masks, they walk to leaps making to play again the cowbells that bring to the neck, threatening apparition of ambiguous beings, half men and half animals. To exorcize and to capture the "mamuthones" they provide sos "issohadores", that pick them to the drawstring with long ropes up.
Continuing on the road you can reach Orgosolo, known for its "murales" that cover the walls of so many houses of the village.
